Is there any difference between normal sleep and "hypnotic sleep"? Hypnotherapy FAQs

Hypnotherapy FAQS, Hypnosis faqs, hypnotherapy and hypnosis

The simple answer is, "Yes!"

When hypnotherapists refer to "hypnotic sleep", that is totally different from normal sleep. Hypnotic sleep is a form of deep relaxation - see hypnosis.

When you enter into hypnotic "sleep" - or more accurately, an altered state of consciousness, your hypnotherapist works with you to enable you to make the desired changes. You are aware of everything that is going on - in fact, you may experience a heightened sense of awareness due to hypnosis. Indeed, that is one of the reasons it becomes easier to resolve your issue with hypnotherapy.

Different people experience varying "depths" or "levels" of hypnotic sleep or trance. If you have a lighter trance, you may not even be aware that you were under hypnosis. If you experience a "deep" trance, you may actually believe that you fell asleep. In either case, you don't need to worry as your professional hypnotherapist is invariably trained to work with all levels of trance.

If you have difficulty with normal sleep, your hypnotherapist can help you improve your sleeping patterns with hypnosis (for sleeping issues) or by teaching you self-hypnosis (for milder sleeping difficulties). Sleeping "disorders" may require medical attention.
